Dom Ebel Interview

So Dom, tell us about yourself - name, age, location etc

Dom Ebel, 32 currently, Bouncing between Bos Vegas and Ringlewood, Southern Flipsideland

Any Nicknames?

What do you think?

Clearly the Dominator, Child Slayer, Crossbar Destroyer

How's skating been for you recently?

Been so good to get back to UK Streetboarding after 2 years away Snowboarding. Really stoked the fires! We've had a really positive year in 2007 and feeling it for 2008 - but now away Snowboarding again in Canada for the winter. Looking forward to skating the Canadian parks as well, gonna check out Vancouver and other spots the locals suggest.

Pondering the next Handrail assault

What do you most like to skate at the moment?

Street skating - loving the variation and having to really search for unique spots, seeing the potential in everyday locations. Launch box for the aerials, will always be a core discipline in Streetboarding. 'Nuff said.

When you're not skating what do you do with your time?

Snowboarding, driving my car, Capoiera, planning the next trip :o)

So you're working as a web designer. Tell us about that.

Means to an end, rather than a love in itself. Good for travelling, as the skills can be used the world over… My speciality is actually SEO - making peoples websites appear in Google etc, and the marketing mindset behind that - I am hoping that perhaps in time, these skills can benefit the sport in some way…

Alas you are on the move again, what are your plans? How long are you going for?

Going to Canada for the winter, gonna be my last season Snowboarding for quite some time I think. Wanna rock out some freestyle with the peeps who lead the rest of the world. From there - we'll see. Definitely on a Streetboarding tip at the moment…

The spotlight is on this corkscrew 540 in Bournemouth

Who are your influences in life - skating or otherwise?

The guys who keep the Streetboarding scene going - going balls out - skating for the love of it, not the fame. I think it takes real dedication to do that, when there is so little reward (in a conventional sense). Other influences change - family, adventurers, fictional characters etc. I think there are a lot of admirable characteristics to be found in quite a lot of our contemporaries - but I also think that this current obsession with the "cult of the celebrity" has pushed a breed of absolute worthless imbecile into the spotlight, with actually very little to commend them…
